GULBARGA was known as 'KALBURGI' in former days which mean stony land in Kannada. Gulbarga district is situated in the northern part of Karnataka State.

The city is well known for its many places of architectural, historical and religious importance. It is called one of the Sufi cities having famous religious places, like Khwaja Banda Nawaz Dargah and Ladle Mashak in Aland taluk of Gulbarga District. and it has many other famous places like Sharana Basaveshwara Temple and Buddha Vihar. It also has a fort built during Bahmani rule. Has many domes like Hafth Gumbad (seven domes together) and Chor Gumbad.

The climate of the district is generally dry and healthy and much pleasant in February.
